Get Involved in the 2012 Olympics
The Olympic Torch is Coming to Shrewsbury!
Hopefully by now you are aware that the Olympic Torch is due to travel through Shrewsbury on 30 May 2012 and plans are well underway to celebrate the event. The official Olympic team are restricting the amount of information released but we aim to keep everyone as fully informed as possible.
On 30 May 2012 we hope that schools will consider bringing their students out of school so that they can line the streets to watch the torch go past and experience this once in a lifetime event.
To mark the event The Mayor and Deputy Mayor, have arranged a 'Schools Poster Competition' designed for all ages.
We would like young people from across the Central Area of Shropshire to design their poster (using the template below) with what you love about Shrewsbury. We plan to then line the route that the torch will take with these posters to welcome the Torch bearers to Shrewsbury.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will choose the top 30 posters which will feature in our 'Countdown to the Olympics' during May. One of these winners will receive a VIP invitation to stand alongside the Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff and the Mayor of Shrewsbury as they welcome the torch. We will also send this school/group a super prize of £250 worth of sports equipment!
A few things to consider:
- All posters must use the template provided below
- All posters must be printed at A3 size (return two pages preferably back-to-back)
- Ensure your poster is bright and colourful
- As the posters will be laminated, please don't stick anything onto the paper
- Winners will be considered in different age categories
